Medical Assistant Resume Examples
A medical assistant resume should show both halves of the job: clinical work such as rooming patients, vitals, injections and EKGs, and front-office work such as scheduling, insurance verification and charting. Put your certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA or NCMA) near the top, name the EHR you use, and give a patient volume per day. A new graduate leads with the externship; an experienced MA leads with the specialty and a result.

Weak and strong medical assistant bullet points
A duty says what the job was. A strong bullet says what you did, how much of it, and what changed.
The numbers in these examples are illustrative, not real results. Use your own, and only ones you can explain in an interview.
Took vitals and roomed patients
Roomed 28-32 patients a day for two family physicians, completing vitals, histories and medication reconciliation before each visit
Did blood draws
Performed 15-20 venipunctures a day for in-office labs, labeling and processing every specimen to the reference lab's requirements
Helped with insurance
Submitted prior authorizations for imaging and specialty drugs, cutting the practice's pending-authorization backlog from 60 to 15

Medical Assistant resume questions
How do I write a medical assistant resume with no experience?
Lead with your certification and your externship. List the externship like a job: the clinic, the specialty, the number of hours and the procedures you performed, such as vitals, injections, EKGs and charting. Then add customer service or caregiving jobs, which show you are good with people, and put BLS under certifications.
Do I need to be certified to work as a medical assistant?
Most states do not require certification by law, but many employers prefer or require it, and some states limit which tasks a medical assistant may perform without specific training. If you hold a CMA, RMA, CCMA or NCMA, put it next to your name and in a certifications section, because recruiters filter for those letters.
Should I list clinical and administrative skills separately?
Yes. Medical assistant postings usually mix both, and a split skills section lets a recruiter see each half in seconds. Keep each list to five to eight skills you have actually performed, and repeat the most important ones in your bullet points.
