Licensed Practical Nurse Resume Examples

An LPN resume should show your license first: licensed practical nurse, or licensed vocational nurse in California and Texas, with the state and your NCLEX-PN. Then show the setting and your load, such as a 30-resident medication pass in long-term care, and the skills employers screen for: medication administration, wound care, IV therapy where your state allows it, and directing aides as charge nurse.

Licensed Practical Nurse resume questions

How do I write an LPN resume with no experience?

Lead with your license or your NCLEX-PN date, then your practical nursing program and its clinical rotations: the facilities, the units and the skills you performed, such as medication passes, wound care and data collection. Add CNA or caregiving work if you have it, because it shows you already know the routines of patient care.

What is the difference between an LPN and an LVN?

They are the same role. California and Texas call it licensed vocational nurse (LVN); other states use licensed practical nurse (LPN). Both pass the NCLEX-PN. Use the title your state issues, and mention the other in your summary if you are applying in more than one state.

Can LPNs start IVs?

It depends on the state and the employer. Some states allow LPNs to perform certain IV therapy tasks after extra training or certification, and others restrict them. If you hold an IV therapy certification, list it with your license, and only claim IV skills your state allows you to perform.
