Certified Nursing Assistant Resume Examples
A certified nursing assistant (CNA) resume should lead with your state certification and registry status, then show the care you give: activities of daily living, vital signs, transfers and safety, and how many residents or patients you look after per shift. New CNAs lead with the training program and its clinical hours. Experienced CNAs lead with the setting, such as long-term care, memory care, rehab or hospital, and a result.

How to write a certified nursing assistant resume
- 1
Put 'Certified Nursing Assistant' with your state near the top; employers check the state nurse aide registry before an offer
- 2
Give your ratio: how many residents or patients you care for per shift, and on which unit (long-term care, memory care, rehab, med-surg)
- 3
Name the hands-on skills: ADLs, vital signs, transfers with a mechanical lift, turning and repositioning, intake and output
- 4
Mention the charting system, such as PointClickCare or MatrixCare in long-term care, or Epic in hospitals
- 5
Add BLS, and any extra credential your state offers, such as a medication aide certification

Certified Nursing Assistant resume questions
How do I write a CNA resume with no experience?
Put your certification, or your exam date if you are still waiting to test, at the top. Then list your training program like a job: the facility where you did clinicals, the number of hours and the skills you were checked off on. Add caregiving for a family member, volunteering or any customer service job, and include BLS.
How much training does a CNA need?
Federal rules (42 CFR 483.152) require at least 75 hours of training, including at least 16 hours of supervised practical training, for nurse aides in Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing homes, and many states require more. You then pass your state's competency exam and are listed on the state nurse aide registry.
Should a CNA resume have a summary?
Yes, two or three sentences: your certification and state, the setting and patients you know best, and one strength such as dementia care or post-surgical rehab. A manager filling a night shift on a memory care unit should see the match before reading further.
