The Singapore resume format is a concise, reverse-chronological resume: contact details, a short summary, work experience with results, education, skills and certifications, plus your residency or work pass status. Leave off your photo, NRIC number, age, race, religion and marital status: Singapore's fair employment guidelines tell employers not to ask for them.
That last point is official. The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) tells employers to remove fields on age (including NRIC and date of birth), gender, race, religion, marital status, photographs and national service liability from job application forms. A resume that volunteers them works against the way Singapore employers are asked to hire.
What Singapore Employers Are Told Not to Ask
TAFEP's guidance on application forms is the best map of what to leave off a Singapore resume. If an employer shouldn't ask for it, you shouldn't volunteer it.
| Detail | TAFEP guidance to employers | On your resume |
|---|---|---|
| Age, date of birth, NRIC | Remove from forms; NRIC numbers can reveal age, so accept other ID such as a passport number | Leave all three off |
| Gender, race, religion | Remove from forms | Leave off |
| Marital status and family responsibilities | Remove, including questions about pregnancy or children | Leave off |
| Photograph | Don't request | No photo, unless the role genuinely needs one (acting, modelling) |
| National service liability | Don't request | Leave off liability and reservist schedules; NS service itself can be experience (below) |
| Mental health declarations | Remove from forms | Leave off |
Two layers of rules sit behind that table:
- The Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices. TAFEP says all employers in Singapore are expected to adhere to them, and that employers must recruit on merit "regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability." Fair forms collect only information directly related to the qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience the job needs.
- The Workplace Fairness Act. Parliament passed the Workplace Fairness bill on 8 January 2025, and TAFEP says the Act is slated to take effect in end-2027. It protects against discrimination based on age; nationality; sex, marital status, pregnancy and caregiving responsibilities; race, religion and language; and disability and mental health conditions.
If your current resume came from an older template with a "Personal Particulars" box, delete the whole box.
The Status Line Foreign Applicants Need
The one personal fact a Singapore employer does need is whether you can work without a new pass. Put it under your contact details:
- "Singapore Citizen" or "Singapore Permanent Resident"
- "Employment Pass holder, current employer [name], pass valid to March 2027"
- "Dependant's Pass holder; will require a work pass"
- "Will require Employment Pass sponsorship"
Hiring a foreigner has steps employers weigh before they shortlist. The Ministry of Manpower sets a minimum qualifying salary for new Employment Pass applications of S$5,600 a month for most sectors (S$6,200 in financial services), rising with age, with higher thresholds for new applications from 1 January 2027, and candidates must also pass the COMPASS points framework. Under the Fair Consideration Framework, employers must usually advertise the job on MyCareersFuture for at least 14 consecutive days before applying for an Employment Pass or S Pass. A clear status line lets a recruiter plan around those steps instead of guessing.
Writing a Merit-Only Resume
With the personal details gone, every line has to be evidence. Use reverse-chronological order, a single column and British spelling (organise, programme, licence).

A summary with one result
Three or four lines: your role, years of experience, domain and one result.
Business analyst with six years in retail banking operations. Led requirements for a branch-to-digital account opening journey and wrote the user stories the delivery team built from. Looking for a senior business analyst role in financial services.
Experience that leads with outcomes
Most recent first: job title, company, month and year, then three to five bullets. Start each bullet with what changed, and give firms a reader may not know a one-line description. Keep roles older than about ten years to a single line.
National Service, when it helps
Full-time NS can be listed like any other role when it shows relevant leadership or skills: "Platoon Sergeant, Singapore Armed Forces: led a section of 10 through field training." Leave out NS liability and reservist schedules, which TAFEP lists among the things employers shouldn't ask about.
Education: degree, diploma, A Levels
Highest qualification first: degree, university, year and honours class if you have one; polytechnic diploma; GCE A or O Level results only early in your career. For overseas qualifications, give the institution and country in full.
Skills, courses and references
Tools, methods and certifications in the job ad's words (SQL, Power BI, JIRA, CFA, PMP), plus SkillsFuture-funded courses if they are relevant. For references, "Available upon request" is enough.

Available upon requestNo photo, NRIC, age, race or religion; a clear status line; and every bullet tells the reader what changed because of the work.
Before You Send: Five Checks
- Is there anything from the TAFEP table on the page? Delete it, including a photo.
- Does the status line answer the work pass question? Citizen, PR, current pass with validity, or "will require sponsorship".
- Is salary off the resume? Many Singapore employers ask for last drawn and expected salary in the application form or the first call. Give the figures there, with expected salary as a range you can justify.
- Does every recent bullet show a result? Duty lists read as filler in a market that skims fast.
- Do the keywords match the ad? Paste both into the free keyword matcher.

Should I include a photo in my resume in Singapore?
No, unless the job genuinely requires one, such as modelling or acting. TAFEP tells employers to remove photographs from job application forms, along with age, gender, race, religion, marital status and national service liability, so a resume with a photo looks out of step.
Should I put my NRIC number on my resume?
No. TAFEP notes that NRIC numbers can reveal a person's age and tells employers to accept other identification, such as a passport number, when identification is genuinely needed. A resume needs neither.
Should foreigners state their work pass on a Singapore resume?
Yes, in one line: your current pass and its validity, or that you will need Employment Pass sponsorship. Employers must consider salary thresholds, the COMPASS framework and, in most cases, a 14-day MyCareersFuture advertisement before applying for a pass, so clarity helps them plan.
Should I write my expected salary on my resume?
No. Give your last drawn and expected salary when the application form or recruiter asks, usually early in the process. Keeping it off the resume lets you discuss it in context and keeps it private when the file is forwarded.
Is the Workplace Fairness Act in force?
Not yet. Parliament passed the Workplace Fairness bill on 8 January 2025, and TAFEP says the Act is slated to take effect in end-2027. Until then, employers are expected to follow the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices.
