Server Resume Examples

A server resume should show the size and pace of your section, such as tables or covers per shift and the type of restaurant, and what you sell: check average, wine or dessert add-ons, and regulars who ask for you. Add the POS you use and your food handler and alcohol server certificates, which some states and counties require. New servers can lead with hosting, bussing or any fast-paced customer job.

Server resume questions

How do I write a server resume with no experience?

Show the restaurant skills you already have from hosting, bussing, fast food, retail or events: staying friendly under pressure, handling cash, remembering details and working as a team. Earn a food handler card and an alcohol server certificate if your area requires them, and list your availability, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Do servers need a food handler card?

Some states and counties require restaurant workers to hold a food handler card, and many require alcohol server training for anyone who serves drinks. Requirements vary, so check your local health department and state alcohol agency. If you hold the certificates, list them on your resume.

What numbers can a server put on a resume?

Tables or covers per shift, section size, check average compared with the team, wine or dessert sales, and the size of private events you served. POS reports usually show sales by server, so you can use real figures.
