Accountant Resume Examples

An accountant resume should show what you own in the books and how well: accounts reconciled, close-cycle days, dollar volumes and audit results. Put your CPA, CMA or CPA-candidate status where a recruiter sees it, and name the systems, such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP and advanced Excel. Entry-level accountants lead with their degree, credit hours and internships; experienced ones lead with close and reporting results.

Accountant resume questions

How do I write an accounting resume with no experience?

Lead with your degree, your credit hours toward the CPA requirement and any accounting internship, VITA tax volunteering or bookkeeping work. Describe what you reconciled, prepared or tested, with volumes, and name the software. Add Excel skills such as pivot tables and XLOOKUP.

Do I need a CPA on my accountant resume?

A CPA helps you clear filters and command higher pay, but it is not required for every role. If you hold one, feature it in your header and certifications. If you are CPA-eligible or in progress, say so, since many postings accept that. Otherwise, lead with GAAP knowledge and quantified results.

How do I quantify accounting experience?

Use the numbers you already work with: dollar value of ledgers or transactions reconciled, close-cycle length in days, number of accounts owned, and error or audit-adjustment reductions. 'Reconciled $12M monthly at 99.8% accuracy' is far stronger than 'handled reconciliations.'

Which accounting software should I list?

List the systems in your target job descriptions. QuickBooks and NetSuite are common at smaller and mid-size firms; SAP and Oracle appear at enterprises. Always include advanced Excel. ATS searches frequently key on these exact system names.
