Data Analyst Resume Examples

A data analyst resume should show your tools near the top, such as SQL, Excel, Python or R, and Tableau, Power BI or Looker, then prove them with questions answered: the data you worked with, what you built and the decision it changed. Entry-level analysts lead with projects and certificates, such as the Google Data Analytics Certificate or Microsoft's Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300); experienced analysts lead with business impact and the teams they support.

Data Analyst resume questions

How do I write a data analyst resume with no experience?

Build two or three portfolio projects with real public data, such as city open data, and describe each like a job: the question, the tools (SQL, Python, Tableau) and what you found. Add a certificate such as the Google Data Analytics Certificate or Microsoft PL-300, and any analysis from school or past jobs, even an Excel report you built.

Which skills matter most on a data analyst resume?

Start with SQL, then Excel, a BI tool such as Tableau or Power BI, and Python or R if the posting asks for them. Communication matters too, so show a time your analysis changed a decision. List only tools you can use in a technical interview.

Should I include a portfolio link on a data analyst resume?

Yes, if it shows clean, explained work. Link a GitHub or portfolio page with two or three projects, each with a short write-up of the question, the method and the result. A hiring manager may open only one, so put your best project first.
